布について-About BALANGE Cloth-
今回は、BALANGEが使用している布について書きたいと思います。
服を作りはじめた頃は近所に古着屋があったので、そこで大量に服を買い、それをバラバラにして縫い合わせたものを１枚の布にしてから服を製作していました。
ある時期は裁縫店でも布を買っていましたが、そこで感じたのは好きな素材や色はあっても好きな柄がないということでした。
ないなら布に自分で柄を描いてみようと思い、いろいろ試してみて現在に至ります。
当初、試しては見たものの自分で柄を作ることはなかなか一筋縄ではいかず、自分の絵心のなさを痛感してどうしたものかと考える時もありました。
考えて描けないなら考えずに描こうと思い、作為的に描かずに自然にできた柄を布にのせることにして、今のBALANGEの柄のようなものにたどり着きました。
服を作るときに布を見てからなにを作るかを決めるたりもしているので、好きな柄ができた時はものすごくワクワクします。
BALANGEの布のほどんどが、廃棄処分となる布を使用しています。
作業場のあるここ広島県福山市は繊維産業が盛んな街です。
ありがたいことに、この地で服の製作をしていることを知った地元の方が、廃棄処分になる予定の布を提供してくださり、現在はそういった布を加工して服を製作しています。
ものが大量に溢れている中で、限られたあるもので作る。
そこがBALANGEの服製作の面白さだったりもします。
This time, I would like to write about the cloth used for BALANGE.
When I started making clothes, there was a thrift store in my neighborhood, so I bought a large quantity of clothes there, and then I made clothes after taking them apart and sewing them together into a single piece of cloth.
At one point, I also bought cloth at a sewing store, but I felt that there were materials and colors that I liked but not patterns that I liked.
If there were no patterns, I decided to try drawing my own patterns on cloth, and I have been experimenting with a variety of patterns ever since.
At first, it was not easy to create my own patterns, and there were times when I wondered what I should do because I was painfully aware of my lack of artistic ability.
I decided that if I couldn’t draw without thinking, I would draw without thinking, and I decided to put the patterns that came naturally on the cloth without drawing artificially, and I arrived at what is now the BALANGE pattern.
When I make clothes, I look at the fabric before deciding what to make, so I get very excited when I find a pattern I like.
Most of BALANGE’s fabrics are made from discarded fabrics.
Fukuyama City in Hiroshima Prefecture, where our workshop is located, is a city with a thriving textile industry.
Thankfully, local people who knew we were making clothes here donated cloth that would have otherwise gone to landfill, and we are now processing and making clothes from these fabrics.
In the midst of a massive overflow of things, BALANGE makes clothes with what is limited and available.
This is one of the interesting aspects of BALANGE’s clothing production.
